In Memory of Robert “Bob” Heppler

It is with our deepest sympathy we ask that you take a moment to honor the life of cherished member, Dr. Robert “Bob” Heppler. Dr. Heppler graduated from Saint Joseph’s Prep before studying at Saint Joseph University where he received his B.S. in English Literature and Philosophy followed by dual Masters in Liberal Arts and Education. He received his Ph.D. in Communications from Penn State University. Dr. Heppler was a Senior Professor of Communications at Broward College.

He joined the United Faculty of Florida (UFF) nearly 30 years ago, immediately with local chapter of Broward College! During his tenure, Bob served as an elected UFF Senator, attending numerous Senate meetings throughout his time, most recently this past Fall 2022 (in-person) Senate Meeting in Orlando, FL. His knowledge, impact and kindness in our organization is invaluable and will be truly missed.

Dr. Robert “Bob” Heppler (April 16,1941 – September 24, 2022)

“Bob is truly missed.  There isn’t a meeting where his name doesn’t come up in remembrance of something he said, did, or shared.  My most recent memory of him occurred at our Fall 2022 UFF Senate meeting, which he attended as a UFF Senator for our chapter.  We have a tradition of eating lunch together before going our separate ways at the end of the Senate meeting.  At that “last” lunch with him, we somehow got on the topic of old TV shows and I mentioned how much I love M*A*S*H, which was my mom’s favorite show (she was a nurse as Walter Reed back in the day).  He then shared that the theme song for M*A*S*H was a song called “Suicide is Painless”.  So we pulled up the song on YouTube, with lyrics, and listened to it.  Bob knew all the words and sang along…out of tune (LOL!). What a wonderful memory. ”
